Unlike standard clinical services, forensic work addresses questions tied to legal standards, court proceedings, and decision-making processes where psychological expertise is required by the court, requested by legal professionals, or sought by individuals navigating the system.

Our Forensic Services

We provide three distinct categories of forensic psychological service. Where appropriate, we offer a brief phone consultation prior to scheduling to clarify the referral question and confirm fit.

Forensic Therapy

We provide psychotherapy to individuals who are involved in the legal system. Sessions are grounded in a trauma-informed, relational approach and are designed to help clients develop insight, emotional regulation, and coping strategies while navigating complex legal circumstances. Forensic therapy clients may include: • Adults and youth facing criminal charges • Individuals involved in custody or family court proceedings • Clients under supervision, probation, diversion, or reentry programs • Survivors of trauma who are navigating the legal system • Parents working toward reunification or parental fitness goals

Forensic Consultation

We offer consultation to legal professionals, mental health providers, and agencies on psychological questions arising in legal contexts. Consultation may address psychological dynamics relevant to a legal case, trauma-related considerations, parenting and attachment concerns, or best practices for mental health intervention in legal settings. We consult with: • Attorneys (civil, criminal, and family law) • Courts and legal teams • Mental health professionals working in forensic settings • Governmental and community agencies

Forensic Evaluation

We provide psychological evaluations for legal purposes on a limited, case-by-case basis. Each evaluation is tailored to the referral question, conducted with impartiality, and accompanied by a clear, court-appropriate written report. Evaluation types may include: • Mental health evaluations for mitigation or sentencing support • Parenting and psychological fitness assessments • Child Custody and Parenting Plan Evaluations • Brief Focused Assessments (per AFCC guidelines — see afccnet.org) • Return to Work / Return to Duty evaluations • Trauma impact evaluations • Risk and treatment needs assessments

Ethics and Professional Boundaries

Forensic psychological work carries ethical responsibilities that differ significantly from standard clinical care. We take these responsibilities seriously. In forensic contexts, our role may be to serve the court, a legal team, or an individual client, and those roles must remain clearly defined and distinct from one another.

We strictly maintain boundaries between our therapeutic and forensic roles, and we do not take on dual roles that could compromise the integrity of our work or the wellbeing of those we serve.
